Lincoln Gives New Meaning to 'New-Car Smell'

Lincoln announced last week that they're debuting their very own scent. This debut does not mean they will sell bottled perfume like a celebrity-branded scent. Instead, Lincoln showrooms will smell of a newly designed aroma. Called the 'Essence of Lincoln' the scent will be used in Lincoln dealerships to deliver an upscale, luxury atmosphere.

The scent was created by perfume artist, Rene Morgenthaler, who has also created scents for Calvin Klein, Elizabeth Taylor and Ralph Lauren. Lincoln is hoping to create an emotional connection between the luxury brand and consumers. This idea is supported by extensive research that was performed by SensoryMax. The research states that, "75% of our daily emotions are connected to scents."

According to Lincoln, "The scent includes green tea to encourage a sense of upscale well-being, and jasmine and Tonka to help create a relaxing atmosphere."

Customers will be able to test out the 'Essence of Lincoln' on scent cards, which will be located in Lincoln showrooms. In addition, the new scent will also be dispersed through the ventilation system, so the entire dealership will have that lavish, opulent Lincoln atmosphere.

A Lincoln dealership in Florida has been pumping the 'Essence of Lincoln' throughout their location for almost a year now. The general manager notes that he has received great feedback from customers and employees regarding the smell.

Lincoln hopes to attach their ‘Essence’ smell to their brand, so when consumers get a sniff of that scent again; it will be positively connected to the memory of their visit to a Lincoln dealership.

So, go ahead and follow your nose -- to Havill-Spoerl Fort Atkinson Ford Lincoln.
